Birmingham has a different feel from London. It’s busy enough to offer opportunities but quieter in a way that many students appreciate when they’re trying to keep up with lectures, assignments, and a bit of paid work on the side.

- Be clear about the hours you can actually commit. Listing specific days and times on your application reduces the chance of mismatched expectations.
- Keep your CV short and focused. Mention any customer-facing experience, even if it was voluntary or informal, and highlight group projects or positions of responsibility from university.
- Apply reasonably promptly when you see a role that fits. Seasonal positions in particular can fill up once the peak periods approach.
- Factor in travel time. A job that looks perfect on paper becomes less useful if the commute eats half the shift.
Some students who work part-time in Birmingham end up staying in the city after they graduate. Having local work experience already on their CV seems to make the move into full-time roles a bit smoother.
