Tins conduct heat differently than glass, so wax near the metal walls can melt faster, which sometimes needs a slightly different wick size than the same wax would need in glass.

3. Ceramic and Concrete Vessels Popular for premium and luxury candle lines because of their weight, texture, and reusable appeal — customers often keep these as plant pots or storage containers after the candle is finished, which adds perceived value. They're heavier and more expensive to ship, so they suit gifting and premium positioning better than high-volume everyday candles.

4. Metal/Brass Decorative Containers Common in festive and Diwali-season candles in India, often reusable as home décor pieces. These conduct heat efficiently, so wick sizing and pour temperature need careful testing to avoid the metal becoming uncomfortably hot to handle while burning.

Matching Containers to Wax Type

Not every wax behaves the same way in every container:

  • Soy wax performs well in glass and tins, but its softer nature means it can be sensitive to temperature swings during shipping, so sturdier packaging matters for tins and thin glass alike
  • Paraffin wax burns hotter and is generally more forgiving across container types, including metal

  • Wall thickness and shape: Thick glass or sharply tapered shapes are more prone to heat-stress cracking
  • Base stability: A container that's too tall relative to its base diameter can tip more easily once the wax inside is partially melted
  • Clearance from the rim: Wax poured too close to the top increases both spill and heat risk once lit

Container Choice and Production Scale

For anyone testing container types with an eye toward scaling, run the same burn tests used for wax and wick — pour a few units in the chosen container, burn them fully, and check for cracking, excess soot near the rim, or uneven heat marks on the outside. This kind of pre-launch testing is standard practice in serious candle manufacture, where a container issue discovered after a few hundred units are already poured is a far more expensive problem than catching it in a ten-unit test batch.

Rather than assuming the wax or wick was at fault, the maker traces it back to the thicker glass retaining more heat than the original container. The fix isn't a different wax — it's either switching to glass explicitly rated for thicker-wall candle use, or slightly reducing burn time recommendations printed on the label. This is a common, easily missed mistake when scaling: many bumps in early candle manufacture in India come not from the wax formula changing, but from a container swap that wasn't tested with the same rigor as the wax itself.
