Gudmundur Hreidarsson comes in as Assistant Coach in control for goalkeeping. It became clear we're very much associated in our ideas and what the upcoming should look like, and it's eccentric that he has decided to be the Assistant Head Coach in FIFA 2026. The new State of Ireland manager proclaimed his coaching staff in advance of the UEFA Nation’s League next month. John O’Shea will continue in the men’s national team set-up after he was long-established as assistant head coach under new director Heimir Hallgrimsson. Hallgrimsson was established as the new State of Ireland head coach at the start of July following a protracted hunt by the FAI to replace Stephen Kenny following his leaving last year.
O’Shea helped as interim manager after Kenny separated ways with the FAI in November, supervising the squad for a series of friendlies this year. It was a varied bag for the former Irish international, alternative up losses in contradiction of Switzerland and Portugal, a 0-0 draw against Belgium and a solitary 2-1 victory over Hungary.
On Monday, the make-up of Hallgrimsson’s unobtrusive team was established by the FAI, with O’Shea positioning in as assistant head coach and Crystal Palace’s Paddy McCarthy taking up the layer as assistant coach. The FAI said McCarthy will continue in his role with the Premier League club, connecting up with the Ireland team in the international gaps.
